Mokume Gane (moh'-coo-may gah'-neh, meaning wood grain metal) is the ancient Japanese art of fusing precious metals. Invented in the 17th century, the term Mokume refers to the swirling patterns created by heating layers of gold and silver until they bond into a solid billet.
